Love’s Super Bowl
Oh Valentine’s Day. Even with all the coverage about the Super Bowl we just had, I could not let the week go by without saying something about Valentine’s Day. Ahhh. Love is in the air…or so we think. There are plenty of commercials for the chocolates, the flowers, the diamonds, and now the chocolate diamonds. What could be better than that?
I think of Valentine’s Day like weddings. Sometimes people go all out for that one day, and sadly just coast the rest of the year. I’m not saying everyday has to be lavish and put you in debt, but everyday in marriage requires making a choice. That choice is choosing to love. That love is an action word. That love is more than a warm fuzzy feeling, and more than a sound we utter. Yes, marriage is like football, and in marriage we are on the same team. We don’t take down our own player, and we don’t just show up for the Super Bowl without doing the work all season long.
1 Corinthians 16:14 – “Keep your eyes open, hold tight to your convictions, give it all you’ve got, be resolute, and love without stopping”. (MSG)
Preparing for Game Day
Love is everyday work that pays off big time! Stay aware. Hold tight to the conviction to work your marriage, and give it all you’ve got. When you work, you get better. You get stronger. You are able to accomplish more as a team. You execute the plays. You see the results, and enjoy the benefits. Then people want to interview you and ask you how you did it. Well, maybe you won’t end up on TV, but your marriage still speaks volumes. It will glorify God by what it says or it won’t. Love like a champion husband or wife.
Have a Happy Valentine’s Day, and choose to love everyday!
