Summer Time, Best Time
Summer time has to be one of the best times of the year. Of course, how you view summer can depend largely on culture and region of the world. For me, summer is awesome even if I don’t go anywhere.
Summer is a time with so much potential and opportunity. For many, summer can represent a break from school, vacation time, or graduation activities. I summarize summer as a time of renewal, a time of reflection, and a time of transition.
Time of Renewal
We all need that time to get refreshed and renew our minds. Take time to change the pace a little. Is there a devotional you have been intending to read, or Bible study you have been postponing? What better time than summer to recommit yourself to time with God. You can even tweak your vacation time activity schedule to incorporate time for prayer, Bible reading, songs of worship. Experience a real refreshing by including God in your summer plans and releasing the stresses of this world.
Ephesians 4:22-23 – throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. (NLT)
Romans 12:2 – Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. (NLT)
When you let God refresh you and renew your mind, you’ll have a better attitude, be more creative, and more productive.
Time of Reflection
This is not a time of self-deprecation, filled with laments over what could have or should have been. Take a look at what has been accomplished so far. See how you have been blessed. Think about the good lessons that have been learned. This time is to be a time of appreciation, a time of praise.
Proverbs 24:14 – In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short. (NLT)
Philippians 4:8 – And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. (NLT)
Time of Transition
Lastly, summer is a time of transitions – moving and changing. While summer can be a time of moving forward, it is also often a time of promotion to a new level in something such as education, business, career, or a next stage in life. Transitions also include our spiritual life – always transitioning to that next level of maturity in our walk with Christ. Maybe, this summer, it is time to answer the call to step out in faith and go for it. Go to where you feel God calling you — to a person, to a place, to a project or thing. Go speak. Go write. Go teach. Go learn. Go minister. Get ready to transition to that next level. Summers were made for transitions.
Proverbs 16:3 – Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed. (NLT)
Make the Most of Your Summer
Yes, take full advantage of a summer break. Use the time to check your thought life and renew your mind with the Word of God. Reflect on God’s goodness toward you, and look forward with hope as you transition to that next step God has for you. Ultimately, we should want God’s desires to become our desires and His plans to be our plans.
Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (NLT)
Hurray for summer! Enjoy it without worry. God is faithful, and God’s got you covered.
Proverbs 31:25 – She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. (NLT)
